Harmar Station is closing in January 2002.

Press release:

HARMAR STATION will cease daily operations at 5 PM January 1, 2002. The extensive collection of model trains will be moved to Bryson City, North Carolina to be included in a new museum, Smokey Mountain Trains. Bryson City is a terminal city of the Great Smokey Mountain Railroad and annually hosts over 200,000 riders of the scenic railroad. It is expected that many of the riders will visit Smokey Mountain Trains as part of their adventure. Dr. Jack and Alice Moberg expect to remain in Marietta and wish to express thanks to their many friends in the area who have made operating HARMAR STATION such a pleasure the past 5 1/2 years. In particular, thanks go to Charles Hess who volunteered nearly daily to operate the model railroad for its many visitors. Without Charlie's assistance the decision to close may have been made much sooner. The HARMAR STATION building will be available for sale or lease by Summer 2002 after the trains have been shipped to North Carolina. Further information, email
